Show THAT SAME ROAD FOR TWENTY YEARS we would like to call your attention to a little paragraph in this weeks twenty years ago which states that the forest service had set up funds for the survey of a new road from paragonah Para gonah to panguitch via little creek and south of little creek peak it stated that funds for this survey had been set up the year before but had been transferred to other forest roads because of contention between the people of the two counties interested as to the location of the road well venture a guess that the proposition of where this road is to go has been heard every year since then first with the forest and then the state as the sponsoring unit but we arent any nearer to settling that question in the peoples mind now than twenty years ago one thing has been determined however and that is that after surveys by the state and forest service both have practically turned hands down on a road south of the peak this year the state has been asked to slate the paragonah orton road via bear valley as one of its post war projects and with the active cooperation of the county officials and citizens of the two counties iron and garfield it will be placed at the head of the list of post war projects ts but the minute this project was mentioned the old question of hav ing it built south odthe of the peak was advanced by some but the fact is that the state has turned this route down as being unfeasible both from construction and maintenance costs and the improbability of its being kept open during the winter lets not argue any further for the road in that location but take a good oiled road where the sponsor would build it it may be further around but the grade is much better and construction costs much less the engineers say so lets give the state the green light to go ahead as soon as possible to get this road and with the promise of construction of the parowan carowan Pa rowan canyon road we hear several different ideas as to the route it should take after it leaves the head of main canyon and it if it is left for us to settle the road will still be in the tentative stage twenty years from now but the portion of the road from the head of main canyon been surveyed and it is up to the state engineers to find the most feasible way on up to the breaks or at least to where it hits the forest boundary even if we dont like the route lets have the road where the state will build it and as soon as possible if it is placed along a route which I 1 is later found to be unsatisfactory it is almost a certain thing that the I 1 route will be changed and the road put in the right place in other words lets have the road wherever the state wants to build it and lets help in every way to get it done as soon as possible |
