Show more men pass exams exam S for induction in S service ervice sixteen more men out of a group sent in for examination last week passed successfully and are back home waiting for their final induction into the armed forces all of this group are from cedar city except one he being from summit about two thirds of the group will be called into the navy and one third into the army with the former making heavier calls now the navy men who were to go in on the ath of february have now been given until the to report the selective service board office informs us and the local board is preparing to send in another group next week for their physical examination and from what we hear several of them will be from hert here men alen the examination last ast week were howard dalley dailey of summit roscoe N leigh clair H petty angus datwin delwin stan worth max C webb verdell lunt albert E newton george W whittaker wells J batts albert S dark clark melvin J gordon cram chamberlain frank cooley winston H and ray E raymer the last three named are volunteers some radical changes are to be made effective february in student deferments because of new policies of inducting non fathers in instead of pre pearl harbor fathers it was announced in the daily press on thursday by colonel H arnold rich the ones effected are as follows students in general specialized science courses who will be gradual ed by july 1 1944 may be deferred undergraduate students majoring in chemistry physics engineering geology etc may be deferred if they can be graduated within 24 months and if they come within the national quota for such students which is for the nation students actually in medical dental veterinary osteopathic and theological if preparing for the ministry schools may be deferred students starting out in the above courses may also be deferred if they can complete their professional cour months and if they seas se s within 24 come within the national quota no will be granted to agricultural students unless they will be graduated before july 1 1944 the national quota for those who may study chemistry engineering geology geophysics and physics as undergraduate students is with each college or university receiving its proportion of the group students in premedical etc CO courses ur will be gover ened the same way the he rec ruest for all student deferments acris mutt mut be certified by both the school ani an 1 VF fp na national dional roster rester before a registrant can be considered for deferment deferment of graduate or postgraduate students is eliminated these rhese men must engage in their professions and contribute to the war effort if they expect occupational deferment students who will be affected by this change will be given until mar 15 th t to 0 present new claims for student deferments |
