Show POSTAGE RAT RATES ES CLARIFIED BY LOCAL POS postmaster 1 I 1 with a view toward better post ot of fice service the following sugg suggestions c S are made for the consideration I 1 of patrons 1 i first class postage if your letter is too heavy for 3 cents over I 1 ounce 1 1 vt or 2 cents more will 1 put on 3 cents not do any good class postage rate more the first fast I 1 is 3 cents per ounce or fraction there off every once in awhile we have 4 4 heavy letters mailed bearing they have to be or 5 cents postage held up for the full 6 cents 2 merchandise in sealed envelopes sometimes patrons mail merchandise films for instance in sealed letter envelopes and expect them to go at 3rd ard class rates this is impossible however since anything that is sealed even if it consists of nothing more than dirt or sand is first class mail and requires first class postage 3 second class postage tage newspapers constitute second class mail and when sent by individuals requires 1 cent of each 2 ounces this postage will take second class mail anyplace in the U S however when a roll of newspapers so mailed weighs over 8 ounces it becomes 1 pound under the rules of the P 0 department and as such is then subject to regular parcel post or fourth class mailing rates 9 cents for I 1 lb ib to zones I 1 and 2 10 cents to zone 3 and so on with 1 cent more necessary for this one pound for each additional zone 4 3rd ard class Po postage stace 3rd ard class mailings cost 1 cents for each two ounces or fraction thereof and will go anywhere in the country at this rate in general it may be said that 3rd ard class mail is parcel post matter which weighs not more than 8 ounces when a parcel weighs 8 ounces or even ounce it is called a pound and becomes subject to the regular higher parcel post rates 4 air mail the air mail rate with within inthe the U S is 6 cents per oz or fraction braction thereof to overseas service ice men the air mail rate is 6 cents pe per Vs ah ounce if your air mail letter weighs more than 1 ounce or more than 12 ounce for overseas servicemen put on another 6 cents anything less will do no good ai air ir man letters may be stamped with ordinary stamps but in such cases they will not be sent by air mail un less the letter is plainly branded as AIR MAIL many letters are delayed 5 addresses i or returned because addre addresses s high on en the envelopes are p placed laced so that the stamps cant be cancelled without obliterating the address to some extent to avoid disappointment on this account place all addresses as low on the envelope as possible 6 childrens friend each month or so new names of f children appear on the childrens friend most of in the post the time we employees office do not know these new names if parents would advise us as to whom these new children belong we could more often get the new subscriptions for this magazine in the right boxes 7 P 0 boxes box rent is paid 3 months in advance usually on the of the last month of each quarter box rent due notices are placed in all boxes if the box rent on any box is not then paid by the alst 1st of he month following the box must then according to P 0 regulations ions be rented to the first person presenting payment for same |
