Show planning board holds hold S countywide county wide meeting county wide agricultural planning meetings held at the B A C on thursday january 30 proved to be very interesting A total of api proximately people attended the he two sessions county commissioner H L adams chairman of the the county planning board acted as chairman of 0 both meetings in the mornin morning session the following county representatives senta tives who attended the adult leadership school at logan in december made brief reports of the school mr and mrs parley moyle of modena commissioner H L dams and wilford day member of the state land use planning committee of parowan carowan Pa rowan after these reports director william peterson of the extension service discussed irrigation water stressing first the need for more intelligent use of the water we now have second the saving of water loss in canals and diversion ditches third the construction st of reservoirs particularly small reservoirs wherever possible fourth the more economical use of our underground water resources and fifth possibility 01 of trans mountain diversions at the afternoon session assistant director for agriculture W W 0 we wens ns stressed the importance of making our cultivated agriculture supplement the range livestock industry which he declared is the basis of our agricultural welfare in this area he stressed the importance also of rural families producing as much of the family food sup ply as possible and suggested that cash crops such as peas carrots and potatoes be used with caution in a careful crop rotation only dr dilworth walker ot or the bureau I 1 of agricultural economics and state coordinator for agricultural agencies discussed marketing elms dr walker stressed the importance and desirability of cooperative marketing but warned that not all the ills of agriculture can be cured by this means all agricultural commodities do not tend them selves readily to cooperative marketing miss elna eina miller extension nutritionist stated that abne third of the people of the nation are malnourished that is they are below the safety line for good nutrition miss miller stated that this condition is due mainly to bad food habits 1 rather than to anad inadequate incomes miss myrtle davidson assistant director for home economics recommended and urged the improve ment and beautification of our homes and surroundings and suggested that men and women should work together to improve not only the home but the farm and ranch as well director peterson summarized the meetings briefly and encouraged farm and livestock men and women to cooperate in the agricultural planning effort to the end that water and land and other basic resources be used most efficiently for the welfare of the people A motion by henry L jones of cedar and seconded by T A of paragonah Para gonah was placed and unanimously passed by the meeting 9 to the effect that the extension service conduct an adult leadership training school each year at the 13 A C to supplement the leadership school which is held annually at the state agricultural college at logan |
