Show DISEASES INCREASE throughout STATE one hundred eighteen cases of 0 communicable disease were reported to the utah state board of health during the week ending september 29 which is an increase ol of almost 50 over the preceding week according to a statement released today by dr william A mckay epidemiologist and acting state health commissioner for foa the state board of health whooping cough and mam mumps vere responsible for the greatest increases whooping cough irl ceased from 25 cases last week to 11 during the week just ended W A hile mumps inci increased eased from 7 c es cs to 24 increases were reported for each of the communicable diseases except typhoid bev Z sr r infantile paralysis increased from 3 cases last week to 13 cases during the present week these cases were reported from four counties carbon emery S salt a I 1 t lake and utah this increase dr mckay said is not cause for alarm because it is not an epidemic and the number of cases ic io ported this year is still within the ten year average dr mckay warned however that the physician should be called early in all cases of childhood illness even where a common cold is suspected the symptoms of practically all of the childhood diseases he said appear to the average layman like the syl symptoms of a common cold not 0 only will early diagnosis and medical treatment aid tremendously in the control of communicable disease I 1 lie he said but it will often save the child from much present suffering u and from detects defects which might appear later in life to say nothing of the saving in energy and expense to the family involved j |
