Show HOPE TO END HIGH PULLET MORTALITY massachusetts college and Poultry men study by cl 0 0 0 extension Ex tendon editor ma massachusetts chu state collego service massachusetts poultry men and the poultry department of the massachusetts state college are entering into it partnership to study the problem ot of reducing mortality of 0 laying pullets the high death rate ot of pullets in the laying house Is the major problem confronting poultry men the state college poultry men are launching the second phase phae of a three part program to obtain more information concerning the causes 0 of f high mortality and to take measures to correct the trouble the first part of 0 the program was started last winter and spring when poultry men united in at a campaign to grow healthier chicles chicks applications are being received from poultry men who desire to operate cooperate co in the project of keeping pullets healthy in the laying house bouse A third part of the program dealing with breeding will be started this winter the cooperating poultry men are provided with a pamphlet giving a summary of some gome of the essentials for keeping birds in good condition in addition an educational cat ional program to meet the needs of the poultry men will be carried on in return for the educational assistance received the poultry men will keep records of their management practices and the death rate of their birds this information all alil be assembled by tho the college poultry men and studied to see what relationship there may be between the various practices of poultry management and the resulting mortality of the laying flock the time has come when the no lao longer wants to be hand fed on elementary information on poultry ry keeping but rather he wants to bear his share of responsibility in carrying forward every type of educational work which will help make the poultry industry more stable and profitable |
