Show twenty fourth celebration enjoyed by older people yesterdays twenty fourth celebration in parowan carowan Pa rowan featuring special entertainment tor for the older people of the community was very much enjoyed by the largo large number who participated the trip through the valley and then to the five mile in which we were joined by para gonah was particularly a pleasant sant one the days program commenced with a meeting at 10 a m under the auspices of the two wards and with bishop 11 II L adams presiding two appropriate songs by the assembly led by L J adams between which wilford day offered the invocation vo were followed by pioneer stories by mary L orton artor and a vocal solo by miss phyllis orton orion then scott al matheson as the speaker ot of the occasion gave a very interesting talk in which he reviewed briefly the incidents leading up to the pioneering of utah and concluded with art an account ot of the first twenty fourth celebration in parowan carowan Pa rowan L J adams and blanch dalton hammond sang a duet mrs john H pendleton told more pioneer stories another community song was led by mr adams and john stevens iro pronounced the benediction mrs glenna M ward was at the piano for the musical numbers throughout at one thirty p in the people ot of the community over sixty yeats as many as cared to go were gathered up in cars and taken direct to para gonah where they were joined by the people of that community from there the caravan went west thru the paragonah Para gonah fields and the pump wells section of the valley where special interest was shown in the big potato acreage which looks so fine at this time hine A short stop was made at the halterman farm where the company tried to drink the big well dry and then after viewing the splendid crops on that farni farm they headed beaded for the camp at the five mile arriving at that beautiful spot they took time to visit among themselves and to renew acquaintances while a group ot of men stal ted led a base ball game into the spirit ot of which many ot of those above sixty entered with a vim A short program including some community singing led by I 1 mr garner an address of 0 welcome by bishop Al mitchell itchell song by david matheson a reading by luella A dalton an accordian solo golo and an encore by D A lamoreaux a medley by the squeak easy quartet adams adama Al mitchell itchell whitney and row alpy and then a couple of numbers by a string orchestra while tables were being prepared by the relief society the orchestra led by george chadburn and roy holt of enterprise violinists and including rose rosa taylor frank stev ans ns elmer green and mrs airs G D hyatt with mith other stringed instruments played several quadrille numbers while several sets danced with john stevens calling needless to say fayhe the he lunch served by the relief society was tine fine the people present who were over seventy were seated at tables while the others grouped themselves around on the grass and were served all they could eat cat some more visiting and more baseball ase ball followed and it ft i was after six when the crowd commenced to return to town for the younger people ot of the community there were sports under the direction of 0 the primary associations a childrens dance and a good baseball game between the married men and the single men in it the afternoon ter noon ohp married men we 0 o easy winners over the single ones A dance in the evening with mu bit by the orchestra which played at the five mile in the after afternoon nood and featuring largely old time dances concluded the days activities rt PT |
