Show asks funds for verdun and liege memorials appeal has been made by national commander john R of the american legion to members of the legion and of it the legion auxiliary tor for contributions towards he che erection at verdun and liege of international memorials of the sacrifices and services of the armed forces of all the nations allied together during the world war these projects were given formal tp by the legions national execl five committee at a recent meeting the committee directed the national commander to call upon legionnaires and auxiliary members to contribute to the funds tor for the memorials contributions tor for the two funds are being received by national treasurer robert il II tyndall national headquarters the american legion indianapolis ind at verdun will be erected a great ossuary in which will be interred the bones of the unidentified dead of the battle which raged around that crucial point in allied defense it will trill commemorate me especially the trench of the bayonets near fort fori Dou aumont the ossuary Is to consist of a series of chapels surmounted by a central tower in which a light Is to burn forever the french committee ee in ID charge of the project under the chairmanship of marshal retain has offered to the united states as its part of this international memorial the central tower contributions of le gionna ires to the verdun memorial will be used for its erection the committee in charge hopes to have the memorial completed so that it may be dedicated in 1027 when the amerlean american legion convention Is expected to be held in paris at liege in belgium the memorial Is to take the form of a civic hall with representation tor for each allied country in it |
