Show GOOD ath celebration the independence day celebration here on monday was a decided success from start to finish and in some respects was out of the ordinary the parade was not as elaborate as some we have seen in past years but there is probably justification for that from a financial standpoint several floats however were very beautifully decorated and did credit to those who were responsible for their appearance in the parade first and second prizes of 10 and 5 were awarded to the living flag tre the god ess of liberty floats respectively the paragonah Para gonah band gave us as some splendid selections but were unable to stay with us during the remainder of the day because of the celebration at home the meeting at 10 was one of the very best of its kind in the history of parowan carowan Pa rowan mrs gudmun sens discussion of the declaration of independence with reference to its literary value its effect on dem ocary etc was a masterly thing and scott Math esons oration would have done credit to orators of much greater experience speeches by the goddess of liberty uncle sam and utah were all very good the music by the choir and the ladies chorus under the direction of mr durham was i in ll 11 every instance appropriate and very ery well rendered and the flag without a stain by L J adams and the sword of bunker hill by T C meek could not but inspire patriotism in the heart of every listener the sports in the afternoon par dily arly those in which the horses participated were nvere interesting and the dance at night was a fitting conclusion for the dabs days program the surprise of the day came when clarence dalton won easily over men on better horses in the potatoe race the lance race prize went to willie orton the only rider who never missed a ring |
