Show TO mm TRY FOR COAL PAROWAN CANYON TO BE PROS BY DRILLING RIG WILL BE PLACED AT HEAD OF POWER CANAL WITHIN THREE WEEKS A AND NO DRILLING COMMENCED by A H rollo it might be of interest to the many readers of the times to know that another trial is to be made to demonstrate whether or not coal exists in this vicinity for several weeks past several local gentlemen have discussed the probability of drilling in the paro wan canyon to tap the supposed coal veins and find out the exact depth and thickness robert halterman DA D A matheson and several other men associated with them secured mr air R A dirkers Kir kers sen services ices saturday last to investigate vesti gate the proposed site and to get as to the probability of coal in that region mr kirker made a careful investigation of this locality five years years ago and at that time pronounced it as a coal bearing formation with the probable depth of the vain of coal at 1500 feet saturday he again studded the forma formation fon natien tien carefully made some calculations cu and decided that in all probability babi lity the coal lies at not more than or feet below the surface in the spot selected for drilling mr air kirker states that although coal exists in the canyon he cannot determine what the thickness of the vein is but thinks that it might reach at least four feet mr air halterman and mr air matheson the two gentlemen who seem to head the proposition are enthusiast no time will be lost in drilling to demonstrate the depth to the coal and and if it is not more than feet and averages 4 feet in thickness a shaft will be sunk to tap the coal and production commenced this coming fall we wish the gentlemen every success and sincerely hope hode that by the time cold weather comes that they will be able to furnish the comman ity with good coal and at a price the citizens can reach |
