hearts are in the work and suggestions are always welcome the following re port part though incomplete in some parts will gie a summary of the work done in 10 the county the sell schools bollt of the county have completed a year car of work quite satisfactory to the supervisors the response made by teachers and pupils to the requirements made of t them been am has been free and has insulted in the closest harmony in the chuoi system stem the teachers have been very will ing 19 to adapt their work to the plans sent out at for their ui and the re suit it has been an extraordinarily lose cloe paralleling of the work in all of the schools in the county in fact le if the same success comes another year the pupils 11 in the outlying schools should be doing work equal in n difficulty to that results of which will be made thu the basis baia of constructive planning at the opening of the next school year the one room schools have re ce it special attention atten lion and a te re employed this yes year forty six teachers tea chera three of whom have res resigned road making forty three positions exclusive of music supervisors a total of doity eight of these teachers tear hera one holds a high school life diploma live hold temporary high school certificates six hold life diplomas of grammer grades torte hold five year certificates one holds a two to year certificate twenty one hold county car tili silicates cates ten taught aught on emergency both music supervisors were ere certificated eleven of the teachers last year were mex penen ced eight had but one years previous quantity used has heen been wall within the amount allotted for use fir primary I 1 mary teachers are to be especially especial ly commended for the way in which supplies have been made to hold out jl it has been the policy to provide teachers teacher with whatever they required for far work and as far as the materials asked for have been obtainable this policy has been carried out iu in no a case be has there been the least evidence of any desire to take ad ita antalee of this supply of materials ft when hen school opened in the fall of 1916 the schools were not well furnished hed with t tt text t books A large number were therefore purchased honed there has not been the proper care token taken of the these books banks by the pupils in 0 o fact it is difficult in many in stances to detect the new books book from the old parents should be asked to co operate in this matter as the waste must be paid for from the taxes collected colleL ted from them not only because be cause of held responsible for the care of the text our schools die ale not thoroughly equipped such articles as maps mapa globes equipment for la lavatory batory work are lacking while in several buildings the desk and seats are not suitable the total enrollment in the arhorn is boys and 91 girls r a total of 1426 in the grades 4 47 7 in high school or 89 percent of the school population the enrollment is that parents parent scan can help very much in making our schools more efficient the very poor showing made in regularity of attendance e ih explained in part dart by the epidemic which serend through high school at some same were young some older than ban the average high school student but all worked hard and accomplish ed good results both in school and in the community this group of young people assumed leadership FINANCES the financial finai cial report shows that the district is in good financial con this is especially pleasing at this time when school dOtric districts ts are
