B will jeopardize I Utah's chances of maintaining maintaining maintain maintain- ing this high professional I standard r I By this I mean that the director and his staff must frequently make unpopular decisions to insure the perpetuation perpetuation perpetuation of our wildlife resources However experience has shown us that these decisions are sound and that these professionals professionals professionals pro pro- understand the problem problem problem lem and are willing to accept much adverse criticism with the knowledge that if given I time the decision will prove beneficial to both the resource and the people of the state A GOOD EXAMPLE of this is the fish eradication program at Strawberry Reservoir As you well remember the division division division divi divi- sion was openly and severely criticised by sportsmen and newspapers for the proposed eradication of trash fish at Strawberry Reservoir The division proceeded with the program and now everyone everyone everyone every every- one is happy Fishing has never been better If however however however how how- ever the director had been appointed by the executive director and served at the will of the executive director and the governor I am sure this program would not have been carried out or if it had it probably would have led to the dismissal of the director IF THE fish and game staff cannot plan long range programs programs programs pro pro- grams that they know to be sound without fear of political reprisals they will move on onto onto onto to other states that offer more professional security There are many more examples examples examples ex ex- amples like the Strawberry incident incident incident in in- to support my feelings that I would be happy to discuss discuss discuss dis dis- dis- dis cuss with you if you wish I sincerely hope that this bill will be defeated to insure the continued professional management management management man man- of Utah's wildlife resources I solicit your support support support sup sup- port in killing George S.
