Show Man dies on Guardsman Whether Edward Charles Newbury, accused in the March killing of his grandmother in Kamas, is mentally competent to stand trial will be determined at a hearing scheduled for July 2. According to Assistant County Attorney At-torney Terry Christiansen, the hearing has been scheduled in Judge Phillip R. Fishler's Third District Court in Coalville. Newbury is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation by officials at the Utah State Hospital in Provo. According to Sheriff Fred Ely, Newbury reported 66-year-old Alma Jones of Kamas missing on March 16, 1983. Her body was located under snow 11 miles east of Kamas along Highway 150. Sheriff's deputies questioned the 24-year-old Newbury the following day about his grandmother's disappearance. disap-pearance. Ely said Newbury confessed con-fessed and was arrested. There was evidence of a struggle at the Jones residence, according to Ely. He speculated that the murder occurred at the house and that the body was moved to the snowbank. Jones had lived alone in Kamas following the death of her husband two years ago. Newbury came from Missouri to live with her in January of this year. |
