Show KAC Fall Classes Begin Oct. 15 : byNanChalat No matter how long you have been" away from school, . i fall will always lend itself to V notions of armloads of books, registration and intermural football games. To meeting new people, to new challenges challen-ges and strolling around campus. Granted, the Art Center doesn't have a football team, but it does have a campus... a series of fully equipped studios where weavers, potters, pot-ters, painters and photographers photo-graphers gather to work and share ideas . Local artists are encouraged to rent the studios and students who are . enrolled at the Art Center has free use of the space. The fall quarter begins October 15 and lasts 9 weeks to December 15. Registration begins October 1 and Don Gomes, who is organizing the classes, strongly urges early registration. Gomes adds, "We are also open to suggestions. If anyone wants to teach a class or wants something added to the curriculum, we want to know about it." In an effort to accommo- date a variety of needs, there will be bom daytime and nighttime classes. There will also be mini-courses lasting only" 5 weeks and a number of one or two-day workshops. Some of the classes being offered for adults include the following: Pat McDowell will teach a mini-course in Photojournalism. Photo-journalism. :. . ,; ... Lisa Palasvirta will offer both beginning and intermediate inter-mediate black and white photography and Staff Op-penshaw Op-penshaw will lead a two-day color workshop. In stained glass, Dale Nelson will teach daytirite and evening beginning classes class-es and Lex Steffenson will take on advanced students. Simister will teach ceramics ceram-ics and , Judy Summer is offering a sculpture course. Figure drawing and painting paint-ing is- offered by Robert Barrett and Karen Offeringa will teach batik. Peggy Parker will teach loom weaving and Kathy Kinkanean will lead two workshops in hoop weaving and basketry. Pat Whitfield is offering folk dancing and Theater Director Don Gomes will teach classes in guitar and in . acting. Gomes will also offer the immensely popular Creative Dramatics Class for Children. Child-ren. Also for children of elementary school age, Marilyn Mari-lyn Karavaglia will offer mini-classes in block print-; print-; ing; soft sculpture and mural painting. Karen Offeringa is also offering to teach batik to middle schoolers. Many of these classes require a minimum number of students and others reach their maximums very quickly. quick-ly. Though registration does not begin until October 1, the Faculty Show at the Art Center opens this Sunday, Sept. 23. A reception will be held Sunday from 3-5pm in honor of the exhibiting artists. The show will continue conti-nue through Thursday, Oct. 20 and many of the instructors instruc-tors will be available at the opening to discuss the material they plan to cover in their courses.
