' ... f 'K;'".: "'''':' " , : ' '' KAC Announces Summer Events The Kimball Art Center, in cooperation with the University Univer-sity of Utah Summer Arts Program, has announced . plans for a pilot program of summer events to be held in Park City this year? Highlights High-lights will be performances by the Ririe-Woodbur Pancc Company and the Utah Symphony Orchestra in late July, with additional events proceeding and -following the 10th Annual Park "City Arts Festival. . .David Fernandez, Kimball -. Art Center Director, and Tina Lewis, Director of the 1979 Arts Festival,'-have - coordinated the prograril during the past month with Mary Muir. Director of the ; 1979 Summer Arts Program for the: University of Utah. Ms. Lewis 5 noted that "This summer will see the beginning begin-ning of performing arts on an expanded basis. I'm eagerly . looking forward to an outstanding out-standing variety of events which will be coming to Park "City this summer." Fernandez Fernan-dez added that "The Kimball Art Center is pleased to be able to bring these nationally , prominent and highly re-spected re-spected companies to Park City, We would especially like to thank the" Park City Ski Corporation arid the Chamber of . Commerce for their cooperation throughout the planning stages. " Tina Lewis said "The University was, pleased and quite surprised, I think, with the beautiful facilities that ;Park City has to offer. They have been delightful to work with and we are looking forward to building a lasting relationship with them." The University's -Summer i Arts Program, , which has been concentrated for the last few years at Snowbird, returns for the most part to the University campus this summer. Outreach programs will go to Liberty Park and Snowbird besides the pilot project in Park City. This year's Park City involvement will be evaluated jointly by the Kimball Art Center and the University with an eye to planning an expanded program pro-gram next summer. ... " . The Summer - Arts Pro- gram in Park City begins Sunday. July 15 with a reception for the opening of the University of Utah Art Faculty Exhibition that will hand in the art center's gallery. The exhibit runs concurrently with the Smith- Isonian Traveling - exhibit, VBirds of Prey". The opening open-ing reception will be enhanc- ; ed by the , sounds of the University Music Faculty Jazz Ensemble. ' The following Friday, July 20, a day of children's activities is planned in conjunction with the Ameri can String Teachers Confer ence. The National Youth 1 Orchestra, made up of young d people from around the ', country, will spend the day in Park City. A Children's Dance Theatre and Puppet Show is planned along with f picnics and gondola and Alpine Slide rides. The j " Youth Orchestra will present . a public concert in the Resort ' Plaza Saturday afternoon, J July 2 1 . That - evening, the highlight of the summer agenda will be an open air concert bv the Utah Svm- .phony Orchestra and a. special guest artist in the natural setting of Park City's . Treasure Hollow at the ' Resort. . , The, next day, Sunday,. t July 22, a special lecture, "Confessions of a Serious Amateur", by Dr. David Bennett, moderated bv Uni-versity Uni-versity of Utah professor Paul Banham. w ill be held in the Kimball Art Center gallery! The lecture, part of the University's Humanities ' Scries. will be followed bv refreshments. Later that . 4 afternoon; the American String Teachers Association will hold an amateur Cham- . ber Music rally., That evening, even-ing, this same group will . hold a conference in the ' gallery with entertainment by a chamber ensemble. The evening will end with a reception.for the artists. A week later, Suridav, Julv 29, t he Kimball 'Art Center gallery will be the setting for the first Park City .4 performance perfor-mance of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. The afternoon performance will be followed by the jazz flute sounds of the Erich Graf ; Quartet. Later that evening, the well-known Rasoumov-sky Rasoumov-sky String Quartet will be in concert in the Art Center's gallery followed by a reception recep-tion for the artists. Finally, during the week of August 6 until August 10, University Art : Department Faculty, including Frank Anthony Smith and V. Douglas Snow, will be conducting their classes each ' day at the Kimball Art Center. The facultv will also be inviting the public to a series of free "Conversations with the -Artists" on Monday, Mon-day, Tuesday and Wednesday Wednes-day evenings of that week. Ms. Lewis expressed hope that Park City residents would enthusiastically support sup-port this pilot program of expanded performing arts "to ensure a successful first endeavor.
