Show CEDARS OF LEBANON The righteous, says the Bible, "shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon" (Ps. 92:12) and Americans visiting this ancient land are finding that the cedars of Lebanon have reached great heights both physically and in history. One huge cedar tree, possibly two thousand years old, stands right in the middle of a road by a small .church. It is this tree that is supposed to be on the coins and flags . of Lebanon. When Solomon decided to build a temple, the Bible tells us that he sent word to Hiram, king of Tyre: "Hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon." Less well known, even to people who live in the area of Lebanon where the famed cedars grow, is the tale that when England's Queen Victoria heard that tiny cedars of Lebanon were being nibbled away by goats, she ordered a wall built around them and had a few cedar saplings brought back to England where they still stand. Today, there are possibly as many, cedar trees growing all over England as there are in that special area of Lebanon. |
