Show Many Fine Trophies Awarded Contest Vinners, Lucky Visitors trash receptacle. After all the trophies had been handed out, Queen Cathy Vail began to pull out lucky stubs and many people missed out on collecting worthwhile prizes by not being in attendance. attend-ance. Some of the funny winners were a 15-year old girl who won a night's entertainment at the Ore Haus! (She announced to her mother that she'd keep it till she was old enough to use it!) And there was a 14-year old boy who won a "night out" at Jim Carr's Alpine Prospector! A 5-year old boy won a beaufif ul drawing by Dave Chaplin ... an old-time building . . . and he offered it for sale for ten dollars! dol-lars! His mother straightened him out on that . . . she wanted that drawing! Soon after 7 o'clock people began gatheringat the Memorial Building on Main Street to admire ad-mire the trophies and prizes that were to be awarded. They "ooo'd and ahahah'd" at the really outstanding pieces that winners would carry off with them. When they saw the great array of prizes to be given to the names pulled out of the box, they bought more of the programs pro-grams and put an extra stub in just to give themselves abetter chance of winning. Finally the magic hour of 8 arrived. Bob Dean, president of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the assembled throng and announced the final event of the carnival. The Buffalo Grill came out on top with a couple of well-deserved trophies. First place in the snow sculpture contest . . . hope you didn't miss the exceptionally well-executed buffalo in the lot next to the Grill . . . and first place for providing the most unusual and unique trash receptacle . . . A LIVE GOAT! Larry McKown, co-owner of the Buffalo Grill, along with his partner, Jim Patten, certainly did more than their share to make this first winter carnival a success! The Kanganark Dog Sled Club certainly presented one of the outstanding events of the entire week-end with their exciting races and then rides for children chil-dren afterwards. Trophies for winners in the dog sled race competition went to: Class B; first place, Dale Hogan; second place John Rahm; third place Larry Rodgers. Class C: first place, Larry Hogan; second place, Clara Jean Hogan; third place, Jeanne Hawkins. Haw-kins. Class D: first place, Ethel Anderson; and second place, Ellen Lambie. The Prince and Princess of the Carnival, Mike Hayes and Robin Martinez, claimed their prizes on Saturday at the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce office. They were too excited to wait till Sunday night, so Mike went off happy with his set of Hot Wheels and Robin seemed delighted with her doll. In the Goodie Races held Saturday Sat-urday early afternoon the one for youngsters 8 years and under was tied a dozen ways so each contestant received all the goodies and a nice shiny dime! In the 9-12 age it was the Red Team that won. Trophies were presented to the winners and second placers in the so-called Sleigh Race. First place in 8 and under went to Eric Hayes and Kirt Grant; and second place was awarded to Bryan Patton arid Pat McDonald. Mc-Donald. In the 9-12 race it was a tie so a drawing was held and first place trophies went to Rick Provost and Scott Toly; and second place to Duane and Doug McErlain. Roslyn Grose won a trophy, second place, for Park City Antique and Floral, with her entry of a large cast-iron antique an-tique kettle for the most uninue |
