Show Your Legislators Report Tremendous Number of Bills Introduced Before Legislature Witli the fortieth session of the Utah Legislature at the halfway half-way mark, over five hundred pieces of legislation have been introduced. Numerous resolutions, resolu-tions, also dot the calendar. The appropriations sub-committees are very deep in their tasks. Several of the sub-com- mittees have already finished. Their recommendations will now be voted upon by the entire appropriations committee. A great many bills that have rural interest have been introduced. intro-duced. Senate Bill 127, the Wildlife Wild-life Management Area Act, would provide for a two million dollar a pp r op r i a t i on as the initial payment by the state for 205,000 acres from the East Ranch of the Deseret Livestock Company. The total cost of the area would lie ten million dollars dol-lars over a five year period. A number of bills dealing with the state lands, sponsored spon-sored by Senator Clyde, passed the Senate and will now move to the House for their consideration. considera-tion. A bill dealing with the Great Salt Lake causeway was defeated de-feated in the Senate Thursday. The bill would have opened the causeway. This was a very controversial con-troversial issue and proved to be very interesting. The House acted favorably upon a bill that would outlaw discrimination in payment of wages and salaries on the basis of sex. This legislation came as a result of the sound defeat of the Equal Riglits Amendment. Also a bill was introduced that would change the legal age from 21 to 18. The recent Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion will raise a great deal of questions, and we expect that this issue will arise. In our Thursday meeting, the education appropriations wTere discussed further. The superintendents' su-perintendents' are very concerned, con-cerned, and they are helping us a great deal.
