Show I Park Scouts and Leader Take Colorado Boat Trip r rI v r ci I a. a v Taking It mighty east Nal on Uti me the Colorado River are from left Gory Oary Kimball Gary Reed Harold liar Har old Stewart Kent I Kendall Webb and Karl CORS Cossey I At pm p.m. on June 20 Ken KenI Webb Harold Stewart Karl Cussey Cossey Cos- Cos I sey Gary Kimball U Gary Reeland Reel I and Kent left lett Salt Lake q pity City with 27 ZT other Boy Doy Scouts ana nna leaders lenders leaders for a trip down the Colorado Colorado Colo Coto- rado River Ken Webb tells of the trip as follows We Ve entered the river at Hite Utah passed the old Bert Loper I Homestead and Cass lutes lute's old place We stopped at neither a as there were No Trespassing signs T That h hat a t night Saturday wo we I camped at Warm Springs Creek took a swim before supper then fought hungry mosquitoes during the night They were terrible Priesthood Meeting I ting Sunday morning a n Priesthood meeting was held for those Interested Interested Interested Inter Inter- ested and with breakfast over and boats loaded we continued our journey stopping at S Smith Fork to look over some Indian writing on on the rock walls there Up a near-by near canyon was a abig big natural amphitheater where all attended Sunday School Then we lazily drifted on dow down dowa a stream enjoying the scenery A warning sign was given by bf the lead boat Bull Dull Frog Rapids ur ull ahead We hit the rapids swu MU tu for the next few lew minutes were fully occupied keeping the boat from overturning Once the rapids we baled out about five tIVIt gallons of ot water checked everything everything every everything every every- thing and found all OK but slightly wet Camped at Lake Canyon That night we camped at Lake Lak Canyon visited cliff clift dwellings and had church services around the camp fire that night Next morning the trip contin Temperature was as ove We Ve made some stops to explore then stopped at a beach called called- the Portals After a l long ng swim we took off oft for Hole in the Rocs ROCK where we camped for the night Early next morning we we started the two-hour two climb to the top Some gave up before reaching the top but quite a few made it We left here and continued down the river with a strong bead wind and hack back eddies making the travel slow Wo at at Kid Kid- de den P Passage and Music MUsIC Tefle le leand and camped that night at Aztec Canyon liked Hiked Se Seven Seten ln Miles Miles' t Next Nest morning we hiked seven miles mlles up the canyon to Rainbow Bridge highest in the world feet high foot span Some of the group climbed on top We Ve stayed there thele another night then continued our trip Stopped lit nt West Vest Canyon Canon Creek Bar Dar where all were initiated Into the So ot f tua a a River HUor Rat Club Later we landed at Kane's Kanes Creek and tt tb th- boats were loaded on a tr ck while one group hiked to Cross Cross- ling ing ng of the Fathers where Father Escalante crossed crossed the Aver with witha a group man many years llo By Dy truck we wen went went t tt ti Gln Canyon Canon Canyon Can Can- yon on damsite It was was Degrees d. d grees temperature re there We We ate dinner din din- ner ler at Greenes Greene's Cafe then we headed leaded for home arriving at Park City at 2 a am m. m Saturday A reunion was h held ld in Salt Lake City on July 19 where a pot-luck pot dinner was enjoyed and the Rats showed pictures of ot the trip |
