Show Athenaeum Club Observes Annual Organization Day Founders Cited Mond Monday r evening tn Feb 23 the Womans Woman's Athenaeum met to celebrate celebrate celebrate cele cele- brate the sixty-second sixty anniversary sary ary of ot their organization Eighteen members were served a delicious dinner at tables be beautifully beau beu- u decorated with Ith red and white carnations and red red candles Mr I Peel accompanied by Mrs 1 Talbot sang two songs Bongs Serenade Seren Serenade ade and Tumbledown Shack in Athlone Organization Day is the highlight high light of ot the year for the Women of ot Athenaeum and it is interestIng interest interest- Ing ng to bring back not the accomplishments ac ac- ac of ot the club but some of the personalities who wio were the organizers On February 22 1897 twenty twenty- Jive women met at the home of Mrs Irs n. n C C. Cordell These women were ere possessed by high Ideals and and they were ere determined d that their club Womans Woman's Athenaeum would stand for fo for always progress i higher social ideals and for the best things morally d Mrs Stone Stone- drawing fro fron n me me- mory Introduced us to some of ot these personalities There were four tour women who were were outstanding outstanding outstanding out out- standing standing- in ta the founding of ot the club Mrs William M r. r Ferry Mrs M. M M. M MF F F. Allen Mrs Mra Fr Fred d H Hayt and Mrs C. C M. M Wilson These women were well educated and they were talented They were iery very human they human they had bad their little Irritations jealousies competitions but they had all been trained train train- tn ed ed in ed-in 4 n the art of ot gracious living Mrs rs Ferry first president of Athe founded a a literary club in Grand Haven Michigan t twenty five years before coming to Utah She was lovely in In appearance appearance appearance ap ap- her her- manner was soft spoke spoken but firm Mrs Irs M. M M. M 1 F. F Allen Alien was was was' the daughter of Mrs Ferry She was wasa a very capable organizer and brought much to Athenaeum from contacts in the Utah Federation of ot Women's Club and General In appearance she had none none of her mothers mother's fine tine features features She dressed In severe clothes clothes She taught music In Park Parle City going Into Into the homes to togi gi the lesson History Up To Date Mrs Irs Fred Hayt was president In 1909 1909 in fn 1912 she brought up to date tile the first fifteen years of Athenaeum hl history tory For many years ears she conducted the Cop re School library lIbrary- She was wasI I very ery interested in the community I and took an Interest in many things She was the one who could always say lIay th the right thing I at the right timer timet Mrs C. C M.
