Show RECEPTION TENDERED superintendents of schools entertain A reception was tendered to the sabbath school officers and teachers of e first barj last evening by the three which was attended by about 75 persona who spent a most enjoyable evening addresses were delivered by bishop D ensign and T B bvans upon the good feeling that existed between the officers and teachers of the sabbath schools in their work in behalf of the young in which the speakers encouraged them in a continuance of their excellent work scotch readings were delivered by prof D 0 mckay and mrs dell S ross which were exceptionally well executed and well rote hed after which refreshments were served jams tanner jr was the master and numerous toasts were responded to among which were our sabbath school our sabbath school stake board the first ward and the ward sunday school A number of musical selections were also rendered which included ocal solos by ml acs blair and clara B woods and a piano solo by mis bela dancing to the music delivered from a phonograph was indulged in until the midnight hour after which good nights were said CANADA AS A WHEAT PRODUCER according to the montreal herald winter wheat is among the possibilities for the agriculturists of southern alberta in fact it is not merely a possibility but it has arrived to such an extent that it la expected that bushels of winter will be harvested this summer from land hitherto regarded as only fit tor ranching purposes sir james carruthers of montreal has just returned from an extended tour of the northwest with general manager morse of the grand trunk railroad and ays what this amsy mean for the western wheat growers can scarcely et be estimated but it will it successful prove little short of a revolution the experiments have been carried out around calgary under the direction of mr dennis of the canadian pacific railroad he told mr carruthers that fo f o successful were the experiments with winter wheat on these ranching lands that he would be very much disappointed it bushels were not harvested this summer the wheat is sown in july and harvested in the following july and so far has seemed to stand the winter well mr denah stated that so impressed was the canadian pacific railroad with the success of the experiments that he had been instructed by the montreal headquarters to buy bushels of hard kansas red winter wheat and sell at cost to the southern alberta farmers to be sown this summer i Is n splendid hard wheat and very hardy it matures very early and if its culture proves a success it will mean an enormous advance for the farmers SCAN THE WANT ADS SCAN THE WANT ADS SCAN THE WANT ADS |
