Show FOREIGN TRADE the classified statement ot the coun arys foreign trade or february just issued has some interesting features exports of agriculture decreased 12 as compared with the returns for february 1903 the largest part of this item Is represented by the falling off in the exportation of cotton due to the high market price of the staple this shrinkage amounted to but the fact should be noted that the decrease in value of the total cotton exported last month as compared with a year ago was only 19 per cent while the decrease in number ot balea shipped amounted to about 47 per cent exports ot manufactures increased 3 a shoving partly due to the active efforts ot the steel producers with aid from the railways in the form of reduced rates on export goods to foreign market the imports of food and aal boals showed an increase in value of of which total two thirds represents the heavy importation of coffee stimulated by the high prices scored by the coffee market under the impetuous buying by the late bull leader A decline ot in luxuries imparted Is perhaps an indication of the comparatively straitened economic conditions now prevailing the total increase in imports for the month was and the total decrease ot exports one especially interesting feature ot the statement ot our commerce with the various countries as that ot trade with the new republic ot panama the statement shows the exports to and imports from the republic ot panama for the months ot january and february our total exports to that republic in the two months named were and our total imports from that country for february alone our exports to panama were and our imports from panama thus the trade with the new republic in the first two months of its record runs at the rate of nearly per annum |
