Show neighborhood notes plain city jan 18 the funeral services over the remains of ainora skeen wife of joseph L skeen were held in the latter day saints church january counselor P 0 green presiding consoling remarks were made by counselor spires lion W L stewart charles weatherstone and P 0 green mrs skeen leaves four small children the oldest 14 the youngest about 18 months mr skeen has the heartfelt sympathies of all who know him preston blair and wife were among the mourners mrs skeen was a sister to M s blair mrs dunford of salt lake another bister was also in attendance as was grandma skeen of lohi city mother of mrs skeen rev mr visited the ebia copal services on sunday the west we her dramatic association visited us january and presented the popular drama ruth oakley and my next neighbor a farce the mumps have been rampant here for some time to the detriment of our school but havo about gone the rounds so our school register presents a better appearance Folk luan A company are busy putting up ice aiom the four mile creek for their butcher business on saturday aad sunday last and dinst the quarterly conference of the oneida stake of zion was held at franklin we had an excellent conference we had with us president joseph F smith of the first presidency apostle M merrill president of the logan president felstead Fel steed of tho presidency of seventies the presidency of the stake of oneida and in the afternoon of sunday wo had elder charles nibley the br eathern gave bood counsel and if their teachings will be adhered to and carried out it will prove a great benefit to those that will do eo wo had a large gathering of the saints some had come from the far north although the weather was cold and stormy on saturday night professor L D edwards of preston and the logan glee club gave a concert for the benefit of professor edwards it was a grand affair tho music by the preston orchestra led by professor edwards was fine singing by the logan glee club was also fine and the baritone and tenor solos by easton and hall were also songs by master J morrill and miss bessie morehead were well rendered acceptably A violin solo by master morris young was very fine as was the violin solo composed by professor edwards rendered by mr phil margretta Marg A duet and waltz by two little girls twins children of mr and george benson was very fine A recitation mothers dream by miss eleese benson was very good also one by mr morrill the applause and encore alter each part was tremendous and proved that they were greatly ap prec fated it wa a great success financially and otherwise it is said that in tho near future they will give a concert in preston wherever they go they are well worth hearing and worthy the patronage of the people the ginging at conference was very fine the choir under the leadership of brother james herd has gained to great praise times are very dull at present but wo tiro in hopes for better times and I 1 think we out of the kinks yet and be prosperous our stores are doing a pretty fair business considering dull times the schools are doing well wo have live and energetic men as trustees and excellent teachers not long ago we had a strike not for higher wages but for less prices for dancing and our boys made a compact with one another that they would not danco any more in franklin unless they had a better floor to dance on and lees price for dancing so they were going away to other settlements and were taking our girls away and out late at nights which we older folks thought was wrong exour bishop came to our aid and got some dry flooring and haa today finished putting in a new floor in our meeting house and I 1 am happy to the strike is over and everything is going on harmoniously we had a visit today from brother brown he told me that he had done very well in collecting A areat biana more I 1 think will take THE or they liko it |
