Judge John ion called on Monday H morning nd tsjioke very well of the Register, and like many others of , our enterprising citusni are doing, years subscription. . The Bugler has patent insiiles, of course, but that does not distroy its m rits as the repreientiveof Brigham City, and Box Elder County. There was a complaint made by the young men who went to the ex-cursion Tuesday, said lhat stones were thrown at them by some of the bOys while traveling through Manti, . This may have been so, as they very often do such things, but we are sure that the City .Authorities of Manti would never pirmit any such action ' if they , knew it. MT. PLEASANT SOUNDS OUR PRAISE. Editor Register: And so you have made your bow to the public? For the first time in the history of San Pete County has she been de-cently represented in the way of a newspaper. And now Mr. EJitor, since you have made such a credit-- ; able start with the Register, may you not retrograde, but rather ad-- I vance in the scale of your profession, and give to our rich and rapidly growing county a newspaper worthy of her rank and situation among her sister counties. San Pete is none of your pigmy counties incapable of having a paper so Liliipution in size and character, generally, that she is one of the most insignificant counties in our fair Territory. Along with Salt Lake and Cache counties, she ranks favorably in resources, wealth, and agricultural products with those immediately surrounding and distant from her. Her cities and towns are growing and prosperous and her citizens industrious, frugal, and Do not understand, Mr. Editor, that I desire to cast any reflection on the Sentinel, Its present career, or present management; but condidly speaking, when the present manage-ment took hold of it, they boaster! that it would soon put on a new garb, and otherwise be greatly improved. This has partially been done, but it lacks considerable of coming up to our expectations. It has hitherto been the general opinion that no good could come out of San Pete; but ere long we will be on a par with our sister counties. In conclusion, we hope that the Register may be preserved from encountering the snags and sand bar on the ocean of time; that her sailing may be on smooth find placid waters, without a barrier to wreck her progress and advancement in ascending the ladder of journalistic fame, f'.ev la REOisTtu. Oi.R. Mount Pleasant, June 16th, 1S90. AN ACADEMY FOR MANTI. It was staled the other day to a Reg-istf-r Rt porter that Manti was to have a Church School, or academy, for the next school year. The Council House will be remodled, and fitted up for a school house, and used for thnt purpose. This is a commendable move, and one that will be sure to meet with the approval and support of the people. Ephraim and Mt. Pleasant both have their Church Schools, and there seems to be no good reason why Manti should not have one also. We hope the scheme fully develops and wish it every suc-cess. Mr. C.C.N Chiistensen has decided to take up a class in diawing and paint-i"- in Fphraim.aiid peihaps other towi.s ff the County. Mr. Christe nsen is so well known in this county that it seems almost unnecessary to speak to the peo-ple of his ability to awaken nn interest 111 his class. Herald saysr "A new edition of the "Congressional Di-rectory" shows that the Republicans have a majority, in the House, of twenty, whereas at the beginning of the session the majority was ouly eight. The way the increase was brought about was by unseating Democrats, like Louis W.Tttrpin, of the Fourth district of Alabama, who receired 18,778 votes, and seating Jndgejohn V. McDuffie, whose total vote was 5,625. The party in control held that a Repulbi'can should have been elected in the district, hence Turpin's majority, which aggregated about three times McDuffie's total vote, was wiped out. Our Nephi friend thought it was only a bluff, and still thought the Co. would build by way of Nephi.
