Show CHAMBER jn an enthusiastic session held lut evening 0 TWO TEES to fill call fin pin all kemt ra ani aul notify them of delinquent does I 1 bureau of statistics to be b organized the ogden chamber of commerce met last evening in 0 special IM I 1 cession with president kelson nelson in the chair the president elated stated that it had bad been several months bince since ri meeting was held beldt ae as the weather had been EO 0 warm that people did not care to attend meetings a but now the days and nights were more cool and this meeting had been called simply for the purpose of getting the members together and for no special pu purpose ro a there had been considerable ab d dissatisfaction satisfaction Is among the people and members on account of the lack of interest in the chamber of commerce and be would be glad to hear troia from 4 any n member present on tho the cub eject j act T the ke suggestion had been made that the tle present directors resign he ile sud slid that be he did not know whether it was the wish of the hembera that be he khouli reu resign or not but if he thought tor for an instance that buch such was their wish he was ready and willing to do so he stated that be he bad had never intentionally tio nally blighted slighted bis his labors as dant of the chamber and if the members would one and all help the 1 directors I and himself him a telf aid and pay ther dues does there would be no trouble there was EO no doubt that thera is an inefficiency somewhere but where was the question lie ile said that ha would world like to some of the members on the question mr armstrong stated that as far As this administration was concerned the chamber bad had done as much As R any other ther B U M short I 1 think thai that the trouble has been caused by some of the members who thought that the chamber was badly in d debt abt the fact was not taken into cone consideration Ide ration that a note his been paid off if at the bank and if it the members member will pay their dues the entire indebted indebtedness nem could old be liquidated judge ratton the criticisms made against us were mostly unfounded and did ga not go far enough enouch and tell the things that had been neglected I 1 have had considerable experience with chambers of commerce and rod I 1 do not think that this chamber is any woree worse than thin any other I 1 think that every member should have enough interest in thia this matter to pay hie his dues and work for the chamber according to the size of ogden this thid body should ba three times as I 1 large arge as it ie Is and we should all work for the cites good legood don maguire I 1 concur with judge patton in all he has said the does are all small but amount to a large sum to the chamber let A as us go 17 9 work and settle up our debts and and pay those to whom there ie is anything doe das president nelson abe there to aro are very few members of the cha chamber labor bat are amply able tollay their and bow how these men can bold hold off ana and keep the chamber back in such a way la Is bard hard to imagine the members should all pay their dues and then we could turn over a new leaf sidney stevens stevena I 1 have been very busy of late and found it impossible to attend the meetings mee regularly 1 presume there is some die dissatisfaction satisfaction among the members of the chamber in the matter of this carnival I 1 wai was opposed to it in the start I 1 could not see how it would do us any cooj but as a majority favored it I 1 endeavored to help alone along and I 1 now bivs lie aeve the carnival did ogden an immense amount of good the secretary worked bard hard and I 1 think it is a disgrace to this chamber that be he has not received his just wages it if we coald could get got the members together and let them know what they are expected to do I 1 think they would pay their dues I 1 do 0 not think the members of this chamber should resign until their debts are paid and I 1 am not to do so until the dues are P paid a id and I 1 think no member should do eo so until he has acted the part of a gentle gentleman man and paid all arrearages arrea rages and the he chamber ama is out of debt L richardson when whon I 1 came to the city there were several gentlemen here through whom I 1 made a contract with the chamber of commerce and thought I 1 was dealing with the business portion of this Cit yand I 1 now hear bear that some som 00 of I 1 the members have said they would not pay their due dues because the d directors rectors bad had hired such an expensive secretary as in myself larsell self the space ace that I 1 procured lar in the N new vork york sun could not have been bougor bought t I 1 would like to have my money as soon as its possible as I 1 wish to go jonew york to engage in business busi nees E A reed breedi I 1 opposed mr richardson at the first but consider he has done good work and I 1 think he be should be paid before we resign as directors Prel president ident nelson we employed mr richardson for or another purpose than simply to keep 0 the records ho ila wrote long long letters to the great papers an and had them pal pallie dished hed I 1 wish all of the people of ogden could be made to understand this judge patton moved that two wo committees be appointed by the chair to meet the members room bers who are delinquent andery to get the them in to pay up E R ridgely el we ive are doing nothing cowards towards t the ke advancement advancement of agdens interest ind individually of course we are all working I 1 offer the following resolution rejoiced by the members of the chamber of commerce of ogden city at a special meeting held oct 1890 that we the members mem bere having heard the report of c oar our board of directors as to their management in securing curing ee the vast amount of general advertising of our city throughout the entire united states which be hai been so thoroughly done during the present year hereby express our unanimous approval of their a action and we appeal to each member to support their efforts by promptly paying in his dues and attend all meetings of the chamber carried the chair appointed as members of the first committee don maguire E R rid Ridgel I 1 bely yand and john Q cannon and of the second A B patton col sullivan and 11 II L griffin mr ridgley thought that bing hing should be done in the way of a com dilation pil pi atlon lation of statistics in order that when questions were asked in regard to Ogdene resources an intelligent answer could be given great trouble had heretofore been experienced when letters of were received dj in answering them lie 0 moved an and the motion was carried that a committee be appointed by the chair to investigate and report at the next meeting as to the best way of organizing a bureau of statistics and general information e L the chair ap appointed glinted E R ridgely Eld gely B 31 short an and david kay as members 0 I 1 the committee secretary mcwilliams lama stated that he bad canvassed tho the city and nal only fifteen members had paid their dues he ile bo hoped ped the committees would havo have batter a 31 mr r ridgely mood that tho the mem bere here ol 01 the committee be auth authorized oriz ed to solicit tor for new members carried john Q cannon asked if it after the members had b ad all paid their dues there would be any debts the president dont stated that there was a claim by some eastern papers he 1 dij I d not know how much mr cannon moved hat that the finance committee ba instructed instruct od to investigate the debts and find out how much money would bo be needed to pay them all off carried the session then adjourned to meet ne next at wednesday night |
