The suit instituted by representatives of the Turkish ?ov-1 ?ov-1 ernment against the Reichsband, to 1 compel that Institution to surrender 1 4,500,O0O which it has on deposit to I the credit of the deposed sultan Abdul Ab-dul Hamld cam before the imperial supreme court today. When Abdul Hamld Intrusted his personal fortune to the Relchsbank h exacted a solemn agreement that th funds should not be withdrawn except on presentation of an order under hta hand and seal. After he was driven from the throne, the now government attempted, to recover the funds and laid before the bankers what purported purport-ed to bo a letter from the deposed sultan authorizing their withdrawal. The order, however, did not bear tho secret soal agTced upon and the bank which took the further ground that their customer, being practically .a prisoner, wag unable to act of his own fre will, refused to surrender the money. Suit was then brought against thJ bank In the name of the former sultan sul-tan In the provincial court at Ber. lln. After the hearing of testimony, tho Imperial supreme court refused to en tertain tho plea that Abdul Hami4 signed the order of withdrawal undef Duress and decided that, the Rolehs bank must pay the money as demand cd. |
