Show MRS. MARY J. PITT DIES IN CALIOFRNI A Salt Lake. Sept. 27. Mrs. Mary J. Pitt, a pioneer settler of Utah and mother of the former chief of police, the late Thomas D Pitt, died Saturday Sat-urday of para! sis In San Francisco, at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Virginia Taggerl. News of the death was received in Salt Lake Monday morning, with thp information that the body would arrive here early Wednesday, Wed-nesday, for burial In the ritt family lot In Mount Olivet cemetery. Mis. Pitt was the widow of Thomas I) Pitt, Sr . n pioneer of the early YiOs, who died In New York some forty-two years ago. Mrs. Pitt was born in Saco. Me , on August 24. 1S2. and lived in Utah tor nearly llfty years After the death of her husband hus-band she made her home for many years at the Cnllen hotel, leaving there last January to take up her residence res-idence with two daughters In San Francisco Mrs Taggert and Mrs. Kathleen PHt Hey wood, wife of I5en I ley wood of the California city Three weeks aco Mrs. PHt isltcd her sister, Mrs tieorge Lufkin of lyi-gan, lyi-gan, and also spent a few days at UrigharnClty . Mrs Itt Is survived by a son of a former marriage, Frank Kd-gar, Kd-gar, living in Loa Angeles Mrs. Pitt was a daughter of the late James Townsend, proprlotor of the first hotel ho-tel in Suit Lake, the Townsend house and nlso proprietor of the Warm Springs resort.
