Show SAYS INSURGENCY MEANS NOTHING DETROIT, Mich., Sept. 15 Con greesman Edwin Denby, member of the Ballinger-Plnchot investigating committee, espressed the conviction here today in an interview that Secretary Secre-tary Balllnger has not been guilty of corruption orbreach of trust, and de fined "insurgency" as the expression of Republican principles in such a form as to appeal to the prejudices of the people. "I would have preferred the orderly method of having our conclusions submitted sub-mitted first to congress." said Con. gresoman Denby. who had just returned re-turned from the committee's meeting In Chicago,, "but since a minority of the committee has given out a report, the usual custom, has been broken. "Why should we blink at the situation situa-tion In the Republican party? "Conditions are grave In the extreme. ex-treme. The party is divided within i-self. i-self. Insurgent Republicans are pub-icly pub-icly advocating the defeat of certain Republicans .who are up for re-election and the substitution of Republicans Repub-licans bearing a different banner. Insurgency In-surgency is spreading rapidly and th election of 85 per cent of the party In the house by the so-called 'regular' w.ng of the party is increasingly doubtful and difficult. "Some of the men already defeated are the best blood and brains of the party and their places will be hard to fill. And others equally as good will be defeated because they refuse to discard the name Republican, that has stood sixty years for the most progressive pro-gressive and enlightened legislation, and assume the name of "Insurgent," which means nothing." |
