Show GUN CLUB DEFERS SHOOTING SEASON Malady Afflicting Game Causes Postponement Post-ponement of Duck Hnutlng Along Jordan. Salt Lake, Sept. 10. At the meeting meet-ing of the directors of the New State Oun club held Thursday night It was decided to postpone indefinitely the opening of the duck season on the gun club preserves along the Jordan Jor-dan river In common with other gun clubs of the state, this club has hitherto always opened Its season on October 1, the opening of the Beason, under the game law. This year, however, a strange malady appears ap-pears to be afflicting the ducks of Utah, especially thope along the Jordan Jor-dan river and towards Its mouth. The disease has caused the death of ducks by the thousands. Some tf the other gun clubs of the state have tken similar action to that of the New State Oun club, and It Is believed thnt all of the hunting flubs of Utah will decide to abanJon the duck hunting for the season. The malady which affects the ducks i.s not limited to any particular section, sec-tion, but appartncly extends to all of the hunting gnmnds throughout teh state. The exact nature of tho disease has not yet been learned, but It is believed to be due to parasitic causes. On Tuesday next the members mem-bers of tbo New Slate club will go to the mouth of the Jordan river to collect col-lect the dead ducks and bury them. Volunteers have been asked to assist, in ordef that the atmosphere may not become contaminated |
