Show GEORGE ALOEN AT MHCADEP Talking in rapid-fire manner which compelled thought of a rare against time, Hon. George D Aldn held the undivided attention or a large audience at the Weber academy last evening, Mr. Alden furnishing the third number num-ber of the academy lecture course. This earnest and talented lecturer from Boston has a lot of good things to tell his audience, and he has a way of telling them which proves highly interesting to his auditors. First Mr. Alden drives home a fact and then tells an Interesting story to make his listeners laugh, but unknown to you at the time. It impresses that fact all the more secure. His entire discourse was punctuated with brilliant, salient remarks which will be remembered by all who lis-tejded lis-tejded to his splendid lecture. Choosing Choos-ing no subject in particular, he drifted along the highway of moral improvement improve-ment and viewed the landscape from all angles. Oa the subject of religion. Mr. Al-de;i Al-de;i expiessed some new and highly beneficial opinions. According to his own acknowledgments, Mr. Alden comes from the old Puritan stock, but he. advances some religions beliefs that would hardh be consistent with hi3 forefathers' visws. But don't be misled into believing that he is an exponent ex-ponent of anything that has been popularly pop-ularly termed the new religion of today. to-day. Here are some- of his rapid fire shots fired pointblank at his audience last evening: "A great many people of today are too busy with some new-fangled affluence afflu-ence to pay any attention to the old-laiihioned old-laiihioned influence." ,:Some people carry their religion like they do their property In their w ife's name." - "Many a man preaches hell on Sunday Sun-day and raises It the other six days ol the week " "It doesn t make any difference about jour creed Just so jour life Is tcned with that great harmony of love ar.d uprightness." "You should pin your faith to that religion which makes you happy and keeps you smiling, not to that which makes you go around with a long, t.our face." "I wouldn't pass the contribution box to some members of ihe church unless there was a cash register attached." at-tached." "If 1 was a wife and my husband classed nic with a washing and sewing sew-ing machine, I'd go one step further in the mechanical line and make myself a threshing muchlne," "There is too much prosperity among the rich and too much posterity among the poor." Mr Alden s concluding remarks consisted con-sisted of some beautiful and Instructive Instruc-tive thoughts on home life, especially regarding children. He won the liberal lib-eral admiration of all those who 113-tened 113-tened to his excellent discourse. Previous to tho introduction of the sr.eaker the academy band rendered several pleasing selections, and as an added feature to the musical program, the live year-old son of Professor Nichols rendered a cornet tolo, accompanied accom-panied by the band. The efforts of tho young mualclan were heartily appre-lted appre-lted and he was forced to respond to on encore. The next number of the lecturo course is W. L.
