Show PECULIAR DISEASE AMOHSES A new and peculiar disease among horses has already caused the death of three valuable animals. In Cache county and Is baffling the experts at the Agriculture college. The horses were the property of Andrew Hecse, of Bensen, and two more ft his horses arc- suffering1 from the malady. According to William G. Reese, a brother of the Bensen man, the disease di-sease attacks tho animals very suddenly sud-denly and soon kills them. ' The other resideuts ot Cache county are alarmed and believo that the disease 5s either infectious or contagious. Mr. Reese had been working one of his team and put the animals in the barn as usual at night. Next morning he went out and one of them was lying down and all efforts to get it to rise were unavailing. Finally, he concluded to look at the other animal, ani-mal, and in leading it out of the stable, it fell and could not get up again. It was not long before both of them were dead, then another was attacked and it soon died. Finally the oldest work-horse he had, and the family riding pony took It and they are now In a critical state. Dr. Frederick, of the A. C, went down, and ho was unable to tell just what was the matter, but said it looked like spinal meningitis. The state authorities have been notified no-tified and an inspector from Salt Lake is expected up for the purpose cf making a thnrrugh examination of the dead and afflicted animals, with a view to determining what the malady is and what the remedy Is that should be applied. |
