Show ASKS FOB RELEASE Of HSISONEIt An attempt was rnade this morning to secure the release of Charles J. Van Herbert, now locked In the county coun-ty jail to await trial in the municipal court on a charge of embezzlement. The attorney argued that the oung man has already served a sentence for the crime of petit larceny, and that the present action against tho prisoner Is for the same olYeuse. Van Herbert, ou April 27, stole a ring from C. R. Wodlev and later pawned the jewelry with C. H. Smith. Van Herbert was arrested for the theft of the ring from Woolley and sentenced to sixty days in jail. Just before the young man's time expired. Smith secured 'a warrant charging him with obtaining money under false pretenses. Judge Murphy has taken Ihe ease under i onsideratlon and will render his decision later. |
