Show WAS FORMER1 MAYOR OF OGDEN The sad intelligence reached Ogden this morning that Captain Charles. M. Urough, former mayor r.f Ogden and at on" lime a prominent business mau of this city, had passed away after af-ter a lingering illness at hi home In Ix)rf Angeles. Only meagre details of Mr. ttrough 3 death have been forwarded for-warded to this city, but it in known that he hnd bnn In pour health for fecral months. Captain Urough was a native if Ohio and was a nephew of ex-Govern-or Rrough. who wns the chief ovecu- I tho of the Buckeye stat during the tftlrrlng times of the Civil War. It was In this state that Charts M. Brongh enlisted in the federal army at a very early age and served with so great credit that he won for him-jelf him-jelf tht commission of captain. Soon after the close oT the war, the young captain came west and about thirty years ago he settled In this city. His flrnt position tn this city was that of manager for the George A. Iiwe Flour company. Later he occupied a nuiutwr of other responsible positions posi-tions and wni3 at ono time cashier of the Citizen's Savings tank. When the LtSeral party became a prominent factor In local politics Mr. Brough was one of Its most prominent leaders. looter, in November 7. 18!:, he was elected mayor of Ogdon. He served tho city executive for two years. Falling health finally lead him to ' abandon his active buslnes career and he nought recreation and a possible pos-sible rcutni to health by a removal from Ogden to Los Angeles. He left Ogden about five years ago. Mr. Hrough was married twice. To the first marriage was born two sons, both of whom are still living. The sons are Charles Hlllman and Knight M. Brough. and both are now living In the southern states. The captain's second marriage occurred In Ogden and the bride was a daughter i.f Major B. Stevens, a former postmoster Her maidn name waa Cora R Stevens but she was a widow at the time of her marrloge to Mr. Bronsih. One daucbter, Ruth, was born to I this second union. This child, how- ever died In Los Angeles about two years ago. Mr. Brough is survived by his wife and two sons. Hell was a member of tho G. A. R. and was a Knight Templar. Tem-plar. The funeral services will be held in Los Angeles next Monday, un the auspices of those wo societies. |
