Show DINNER FAVORS May Be Made Both Artistic and Humorous With a Little Ingeninty By Linda Hull Lamed. THOSE who entertain, even though it be most informally, are looking look-ing for something unique In place cards and favors for dinners, luncheons or suppers. Those who are gifted with artistic ability, especially es-pecially If combined with a sense of humor, may make iheso little ac-cesroriej ac-cesroriej out of home material, and thepo are always appreciated by the guest. The newest of these are little trees nnd tiny buhes which take us back to childhood's days. Then there are trees and sprigs growing from tiny wooiien standards, with a slit In the wood for the card. The holly branch Is particularly appropriate Jui-t now. In this same collection one finds tlnv baskets filled with flowers, artificial of course, but really very near to nature, hey ar so well domv There are white iiakets one and one-half Inches In diameter di-ameter filled with violets. These havo fall handles tle.t with narrow violet ribbon. Then there are pink baskets holding pink clover; yellow buttercups or cornflowers in green baskets with green ribbon, and white flower In vel-w vel-w baskets with yellow ribbon. These arc all round, but there are also oblong baskets with round ends contulnlng while daisies or yellow flowers, l'or a bride's table there are oblong baskets with square ends. In Imitation sliver, with tail handles tied with while rob-bon. rob-bon. These are, of course, tilled with orange blossoms. I must not forget tho liny fern baskets filled with moss. The advantage of using these pretty Qermun novelties for they are all made In clever Germany Is that of their lasting quality, as guests are not supposed to take them away unless told to do so by the hostess. A set of these. In any one color, to match the table, decorations, is Indeed u very pretty pret-ty table equipment. If holly bo selected there are small gloss bonbon dishes with a bronze holly branch and berries, enameled In natural natu-ral colors, laid across the edge These could be give-n to the women guests as souvenirs. while horteshoe paperweights, paper-weights, trimmed with a similar branch of holly, are Intended for the men. The card for the bride Is the bride herself her-self with a huge shower bouquet ami there are others for the groom and guests. Somo r.f these are suitable for an engagement announcement, a dinner din-ner or luncheon, as there are cards with cuplda carrying suit cases labeled with red hearts, and others representing the bridal party on the wuy to the altar against a ttrlng of red hearts as a background. Evidently of American manufacture Is another announcement eard. It 1 a small imitation box of flowers, which opens and discloses a card, bearing the names of the engaged pair. Por Dutch dinners or suppers there are Delft blue figures with a background back-ground of hearth tiling, and some broad, low cards holding on their upper edgy two stiff Dutch bouquets. These are quaint and effective. Por special days there are orange Pumpkin Jack-o'-lanterns with a rod ciell on guard at the top and Japanese ladles In watercolora. |
