Show FARMER FOE BETTER FARMS The following communication was received today from Lorenzo Ilopla, of Maplelon. I'tab, who is in Ogden aitenijing the Republican state convention; con-vention; "Editor of Standard I am endeavor inc to have a law passed compelling every farmer and land owner to keep down all obnoxious weeds upon the highways, private roads, public canals, private ditches and upon their farms or other lands. I wish also to com-P com-P 1 every farmer and land owner to keep fences Iu proper order. It means thousands of dollars lo our state. Thousands of dollars worth of horses are destroyed every year throughout the state through the carelessness of farmers allowing lnoe wires strewn about the public highways and public roads. If our farms, fences and roads are kept in proper condition It means thousands of dollars saved to our state. It would throw inducements for men of money to come among us and buy up fruit farms and set up various var-ious industries which means employment employ-ment for many of our children. Ami ' In the place of growing weeds we would he growing clean grain, which menus a great deal to our state. "There Is no Inducements whatever for people to come among us as things are now. Our farms, roads and i fences are In such bad condition that it does not look encouraging for strangers to come and take up their abode with us. I feel that these laws ! ouch I to be passed and enforced. Wo should have an officer in each town ' and precinct and n slrict overseer to see that the Jaws enacted are enforced j to tbe letter." |
