Show LACUNA DAM NEAR YUMA ALMOST COMPLETED LAST CARLOAD OF ROCK HAS BEEN DUMPED IN APRON. Diversion Weir Is Being Cleared of .All Construction Equipment, Preparatory to Opening. Yuma. Ariz., March 25. The last carload of rock has been dumped Into the apron of-Laguna dam, and the great diversion weir is being cleared of all its construction equipment, preparatory to the opening celebration on March 30 and 31. Laguna dam extends across the Colorado Col-orado river and is located about 14 miles above the city or Yuma, it was built by the United States reclamation service at a cost of more than a million mil-lion dollars. Tho dam Is not a storage stor-age basin, but a diversion weir, which allows the water to pass through sluice gates on either side of the liver Into main channels from "whlcn many laterals and ditches will extend ex-tend over about 130,000 acres under the Yuma project. Work on the dam was commenced in July, 1905. The daravls 4.770 feet long. |
