Show SMALLPOX CASES ARE IHCBEASIHQ IN ZION Twelve More Patients are Discovered Within the Last Seven Days. Salt Lake, Jan. 3. After being apparently ap-parently checked, smallpox and scarlet fever have broken out afresh In Salt Lake during the last week and have aroused new fear among the staff of the city health department. Whereas only five cases each of smallpox and scarlet fever were reported a week ago, there were 12 cases of smallpox and 19 cases of scarlet fever reported during the week ending with Friday j right, and seven new cases of smali-pox smali-pox were reported to the board of health Saturday. In all, there were 51 cases of cantag-lous cantag-lous and infectious diseases reported during the week, classified as follows: Smallpox 12, diphtheria 3, typhoid fever 1, scarlet fever 19, measles 1, whooping cough 8, pneumonia 2 and chickenpox 5. There are still 22 houses quarantined on account of smallpox, 34 on account of scarlet fever and 5 on account of diphtheria. Fifteen cases remain at the isolation hospital. The new smallpox cases reported Saturday are: M- M. Sullivan and three children, Marion, Aggie and Sa die, of 1350 Lincoln avenue: Wlnlow Smith, 23 North West Temple street; Bvron Whitney. 209 B street, and Bu-sard Bu-sard Carna, 568 East South Templo street There were 50 births reported during dur-ing tho week, of which 22 were boys and 2S girls; 27 deaths of which 16 were males and 11 females. Seven bodies were brought to Salt Lake for burial. |
