Show FOREST RESERVATION BILL BY WEEKS MAY PASS v' Washington, Jan. 28. Hope for the passage of the Weeks forest reservation reser-vation bill is based largely on the character of the bill, which, while intended in-tended primarily in the Interests ot the proposed Appalachian and White Mountain reservations, is still general in its character. It was thin applicability applica-bility oC the bill to all sections of the country and Its harmonizing with the basic ideas of the recent conservation congress that made It possible to gel the measure out of the committee. Another feature of the bill, whlcn, It Is believed, will strongly appeal to the members of both houses, Is th2 provision or the manner of purchase of these landb, Tho new bill does not provide for the appropriation ot a single million from the general revenues reve-nues of the government. The Weeks bill provides that the reserves shall be purchased from moneys received from the sale or disposal dis-posal of any products or the use lands or resources from the public lands now or hereafter set aside as national forests. In other words, it 13 planned to have the forest reserveB of tho country so managed as to purchase pur-chase more forest reserves. The bill provides that the moneys derived from the national forests shall bo reserved I in tho United States treasury as a special fund to be used In the examination, exami-nation, survey or acquirement of lands located on the head waters of navigable navi-gable waters, all of which are being, or may be developed for navigable purposes.
