In order to Inform In-form the public exactly what Americans Amer-icans have thus far done through the 1 Red Cross society, Miss Mabel Hoard- ran, the secretary, today issued an ! o'fflcial statement announcing that J the total amount of subscriptions for Italian relief so far credited and received re-ceived through the. American National Red Cross Is more than $400,000. This Includes today's contributions of $1 36.000. The statement adds- j "On the first of December, the remittance re-mittance by the American Red Cross to that of Italy, through the department depart-ment of state and the American ambassador am-bassador In Rome, was $70,000. Oa ihe second of January, $100,000 additional addi-tional was telegraphed, and on the tlird of January $150,000 additional was remitted. - 'The expen !-"urred In the chartering, char-tering, freighting and use of a large steamship contracted for by the American Amer-ican ambassador, has been assumed by the American Red Cross, and fur-tner fur-tner remittances have been made to cover the exptuse thoreof.
