Show RESIDENCE BURNS Fire Destroys Home of W. Kenney on Seventh East. Salt Lake, March 2. A handsome story and a half home owned by Mrs. Sarah Mansfield, situated at 1 745 Seventh Sev-enth East street and occupied by W. Kinney and family, was totally destroyed destroy-ed by fire this morning at 7:45 o'clock. The house was valued at $2,500 and the contents, $2,000. The building went up In smoko and $300 damages were done to the contents Both building build-ing and contents are covered by Insurance In-surance with the Stowe & Palmer company. The blaze was caused by a defective flue and was first discovered by Mrs. Kinney. She Immediately telephoned In au "alarm and following this seven more alarms were turned In. The apparatus ap-paratus from No. 5 and a steamer from headquarters, under the direction of Chief Glore, hurried to the place, but the run was a long one and the fire got a good start before the flro fighters were half way there. Operator Opera-tor Fred Oulbransen telephoned to the place seven minutes aftor the alarm was turned In and Mrs. Kinney an-9werod an-9werod the call but had to leave, aa she said the heat was so Intense she could no longer remain In the building. Neighbors rushed to the place and most of the contents were removed before the walls began to crack aDd the roof collapsed. The firemen wero greatly handicapped not only by reason rea-son of the long run but because there is not a fire plug within half a mile of the place and they had to stretch 1.050 feet of hose. Shortly after the arrival of the apparatus ap-paratus tho place was a roaring furnace fur-nace and the roof collapsed. The firemen fire-men poured streams of water Into the flames but It seemed Impossible to quench them. Tho insurance on the building Is $2.-500 $2.-500 and the Insurance on the contents $2,000. - . |
