To give important consideration to the proposition of erecting a stnto capitol building, the rules committee of the senate has dpcidod upon forming form-ing a special committee to have charge of this matter. The committee today reported in favor fa-vor of adopting the rules of tho Sev enth session, with this exception. President Gardne appointed on this committee Senators Stookey, Marks, Ifuianlski, Badger and Hyde. Governor Gover-nor Spry'. In his message, lays special inphasis on the need of a capitol building. A large number of prohibition petitions peti-tions reached the senate chamber this afternoon. Nearly every senator received re-ceived hulky documents favoring the proposition. From the town of Laver-kin, Laver-kin, Washington county, Senator Miller Mil-ler received a petition from practi ca'Iy every resident of the town. For Margaret Clark, Senator Kuch-ler Kuch-ler would like to have $5,000 appropriated. appro-priated. Mrs. Clark is the widow of former Deputy Sheriff Clark of Weber We-ber county, who was shot dead by a burglar November 27. 190S. An act to appropriate the sum of $5,000 to Margaret Clark on account of tho death of "ner husband. Seraour L. Clark, while engaged in his duties as a peace officer of the state of Utah, and a deputy sheriff of .Weber county. Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Utah: Section 1. Ttat the sum of $5,000 is hereby appropriated out of any moneys in the state treasury, not otherwise appropriated, to Margaret Clark, of Weber county, Utah, on account ac-count of services rendered to the state of Utah, by her husband. Seymour L. Clark, a deputy sheriff of Weber county, and a peace officer of the state of Utah, who was shot and killed on the night of November 27. 190S, near Uintah, in said Weber county, while engaged In the performance of his duties du-ties as such deputy sheriff and peac officer, in attempting to apprehend a burglar encountered when said Clark was returning from Uintah, having in his cutody a poor unfortunate foreigner foreign-er whom the sajd Clark and his fellow officer had rescued from the cold, and the state auditor is hereby authorized and directed, upon the application in writing of the said Margaret Clark, and the filing with the said auditor by the said Margaret Clark, of a written release of all claims and demands In full against the state of Utah, for and on account of the death of her husband, hus-band, to draw his warrant upon the state treasurer in favor of the said Margaret Clark for the amount herein specified. Section 2. This act shall take effect ef-fect upon approval. ASKS FOR $5,000 FOR THE WIDOW OF SEYMOUR CLARK Salt Lake, Jan. 14 The house and i-cnato were called to order at nooa today. The first matter of importance to come before the house after Speaker Robinson called that body to order, was a petition from residents of Virgin, Vir-gin, Washington county, asking that the legisltaure pass a law prohibiting the manufacture or ale of Intoxicating Intoxicat-ing liquors within the state of Utah, except for medicinal, mechanical or sacramental purposes.
