Show WORKERS IN HAT FACTORY GO ON STRIKE ENTIRE HAT MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IS EFFECTED. The Notification That Manufacturers Will Permit No More Union Labels Lab-els In Hats, Is Cause. New York. Jan. 15. Seventy-five bat factories employing from 20.000 to 25,-0')0 25,-0')0 persons, were affected by a decision decis-ion of tne Associated Hat Manufacturers, Manufactur-ers, promulgated today, to discontinue the u.e of the union label in all tho factories represented in the association. associa-tion. The issuance of the order was followed by strikes in the hat factories of Ogange, N. J., where 4.000 men went out and in Brooklyn, whero 500 men employed by Samuel Mundhelm & Co. went on strike. j Following the receipt of the order discontinuing thCuse of the label, the national board of the United Hatters of America having about 25,000 members, todav ordered all those employed in the "factories owned or controlled by the members of the Associated Hat Manufacturers, to go on strike. President John A. Moffit of the United Unit-ed Hatters said today that the action of tho manufacturers in discontinuing the use of the union label meant a fight to the end for the existence of the tin ion. Samuel Mundheim Is president of the hit , manufacturers' association. Mr. Mundheim said today that the vote to discontinue the use of tho label was unanimous. He said the reason for this action was that the union of employes naa failed to sign a working agreement with the Geyer Hat company of Philadelphia. Phila-delphia. Under this agreement he said, the men were to continue work until a settlement of pending questions were reached, but the men quit work in that factory three weeks ago and have since refused to return.
