Prlckett of Salt Lako. will leave today for Washington where they will present reasons why freight rates on the basic products of the west should he reduced, both to stimulate stim-ulate these Industries and to better the revenue of the railroads themselves. them-selves. Mr. Prlckett will appear before the Interstate commerce commission with Hie credentials of Governor Mabey. the governors of Colorado Idaho and Wyoming, and prbably with credentials creden-tials from the governors of Nevada, Arizona, Montana and New Mexico. in addition to his capacity as spokesman for these states. Mr. Prlckett's efforts will be directed di-rected to Ihe end of providing the commission with a clear, comprehensive comprehen-sive and concise analysis of the effect of present rates and Hie, economic necessity ne-cessity for adjustments on the basic commodities. He will have as witnesses wit-nesses industrial leaders of the states concerned, men familiar with the situation sit-uation and tho needs of particular industries, such as canning, coal and metalliferous mining, livestock and agriculture, etc. These witnesses have been directed to prepare thelr evidence along harmonious har-monious lines, in order that the COS of the west may be given with the I greatest possible elfecl. j In addition to appearing bsfors the Commission on behalf of the west at Washington; Mr. Prlckett will also attend the final hearing on the short and long haul case before Examiner William A. Disquo at New York on January 18. At that time the final evidence of the eastern seaboard interests, in-terests, of the railroads, of the Intermediate Inter-mediate Rate association and of tnc I merchant marine will bo submitted. |
