Show j THEATRES j Norma Talmadge Greeted By Crowed houses in "Wonderful Thing" Popularity or Norma Talmadge was i evidenced last night by the large crowds that greeted the famous star at the Orpheum theatre in "The Wonderful Won-derful Thing " it was her first appearance appear-ance in Ogden in several montha The theme of the picture deals with the efforts of a woman in doing something some-thing for somebody el?e. in which she succeeds with more or 1 ss happy r -suits. Upon this is based the humor and pathos of the film. Miss Talmadge has a role which gives her opportunity tot exhibiting :i decided talent for comedy, an accomplishment accom-plishment which is generally supposed sup-posed lo have gone entirely to her Sister, Sis-ter, Constancei ;it least as far as the Talmadge family is concerned. The abilities of Norma as a come- dienno were the first surprise of the : ., - I evening. The second surprise came in finding th.n Mrs. Lydlg Hoyt was in the cast. It must be admitted that the announcement that this New York so-clety so-clety matron had gone in for pictures 1 and would havo a part In Norma Tal-niadge's Tal-niadge's production had been noised 1 abroad, but it was expected that she would appear in but a Very minor J purt. The second surprise, therefore, was the discovery that the younf WO- man ho so very capably played the rather difficult role of Catherine Man-nerby Man-nerby Truesdalo, was in reality the young woman who has forsaken tho j gay whirl of the upper strata of soci- ; ety to appear before the camera. "The Wonderful Thins" Is really good entertainment. The wonderful thing about it is tho wonderful way in Which excellent comedy has been mixed mix-ed In with drama and pathos. The entire cast is fine, and naturally. Harrison Ford carries away the honors hon-ors that (,' to the male characters. Howard Truesdale. however, Is admirable admir-able as the self-made American hog king, and others in the cast who give g I account it themselves are Koberi ! Agnew, Ethel Fleming. Mabel Bert, Fanny Burke, Walter McKwen and ' Charles Craig-. I 'Torchy's Promotion." another -f.f this famous series of cemedies, rounds j out the bill, which will continue through Wednesday night. A pleasing feature of the orpheum's program was the special musical score for the picture arranged by J. Albert Krlckson. director or tho Orpheum orchestra-. Appreciation of the excellent music was manifest by the applause that greeted the n ndltllon Of several numbers. |
