Show A explosive materials care fally or not at all A week ago last wednesday a 16 year old boy of john royle of west weber met with a serious accident which again emphasize tho necessity of using the utmost precaution in manipulating firearms and allied articles having found a giant powder cartridge similar to the common cartridges used for six shooters he handled it somewhat barele sly trying to clean it when tho explosive went oft with a loud report like that of a musket shot injuring in a most painful and dangerous manner the thumb index and middle finger of the left hand and the index the right all the ekin and flesh on the inside of these members were torn away or fearfully young man great buffering fortunately he had not held hie head down otherwise the frightful discharge would have killed the poor lad the boys father applied uch things to the injured hands as he had within his reach which ef course did not amount to much relief nor keep off the suppuration that sot in not until today to day was the injured boy brought into town and placed under the caro of dr john driver whose surgical skill will afford the boy as much relief ae ie possible under the circumstances As luck would have ir only the renewable part were injured the osseous structure remaining unhurt that it ie only question of time when the boy will again haro the use of bis bands which be will be sure to keep henceforth at a distance from giant powder or any other such unpalatable cita pound we hope the accident will at least do fiord in serving as a caution to those who are constantly risking their limbs and lives by recklessly handling these dangerous articles |
