Show I CAR STlElT - S. LMERTEQ Agreement Reached Between Street Car Officials and Union Heads SALT LAKE, April 30. Salt Lake's threatened street car strike was averted avert-ed yesterday through an agreement reached between the Utah Light and Traction company and the officers of the union through the good offices of jjan arbitration committee composed of the presidents of the Commercial club, tho Rotary club, the Klwanis club, the Utah Manufacturers' association and W. M. Knerr. The new contact was ratified by the street car men at a .mass meeting held last night in the Labor temple. Tho meeting was called to order at 2:06 o'clock. Among those present, besides tho local officers and -100 members of the union, was Allen H. Burt, international vice president, who arrived In Salt Lake yesterday afternoon. after-noon. At 2:30 o'clock the newspaper representatives were called In, and Secretary J. J. Sullivan of the local union announced that tho men had unanimously ratified the arbitration agreement. By this agreement, to which the respective re-spective parties bind themselves for at least one year, both sides made concessions con-cessions to their original stands. The car men conceded something in the matter of wages and the company in the matter of every eighth day off and bettered lavatory facilities. Under tho new schedule of wages the street car platform men will receive re-ceive an increase of approximately -IS per cent from a minimum of 39 cents per hour to 57 cents per hour, while tho car barn and shop employees will receive an increase from the minimum of 3G per cent. The total addition to the wages of the 550 men employees will be Increased In-creased by $251,60G.40 annually by) virtue of the agreement reached last i 1 night, and, according to an official of the company, will give Salt Lake tho second highest scale for street car ' company employees In the United! States.
