Show VIOLENT PRICE TURN! WEEK Extreme Difficulty in Securing Grain to Deliver on May-Contracts May-Contracts CHICAGO, May 1 Violent upturns in price have resulted this week from the extreme difficulty of getting grain to deliver on May contracts at the leading railway terminals. Compared with a week ago, corn quotations this morning were 5r to 12 higher, oats showed I'-a to 5 advance, and provisions provi-sions ranged fro 20c decline to a. rise of 60c. NotwithsUinding that, owing to the strained financial conditions, decided weakness became manifest at times in the corn markel, the majority of sellers sell-ers who attempted to take advantage of depressing circumstances overreached over-reached themselves. It was evident that not enough grain was in position to satisfy immediate commercial requirements. re-quirements. Wet weather delays to the sedings of spring wheat and of oats added to the anxiety of shorts in corn and so, too, did periods of urgent urg-ent European purchasing of bread-stuffs, bread-stuffs, accompanied in one instance by an almost vertical jump of 11 cents a bushel in the value of rye. Topmost prices ever known were reached for oats. It was said that as a result of adverse field conditiions, the 1920 acreage of oats in the United Stales would he noticeably curtailed. Reports thaht Germany had obtained $45,000,000 credit from an American packing company did considerable to make provisions average higher. - OGDEN LIVESTOCK MARKET Cattle Receipts 244; choice heavy steers, $10.00(5)10.75; good steers, ?9.0010.00; fair steers, ?7.50S.50; choice feeder steers, $S.0O9.00: Choice cows and heifers, 7.00S.00; fair to good cows and heifers, $4.506.00; cutters. $4.506.00; can-ners, can-ners, $3.00(5)4.00, choice feeder cows. $5.506.50; fat bulls, $5iQ6.25; bologna,, bo-logna,, bulls, $4.005.00; veal calves, $10.00(0' 12.00 Hogs Receipts 607; choice fat hogs 175 to 250 lbs $14.0014.75; bulk of sales $14. 00 14. 50; feeders ?10.00 12.50. CHICAGO, May 1 Improved weather weath-er for farm work tended today to give some advantage to bears In the- corn market. Tightness of money counted also as a depressing factor. Trade however, was mostly in small lots and there was but little hindrance to ral- lies. Opening quotations, which ranged from 6c to 4c lower, with July $1.64 lo $1.64, and September $1.57 to $1.57, were followed by upturns all around. Oats, like corn, were eased somewhat some-what by sunshine and warmth. After Af-ter opening -c to c advance, including includ-ing July at SSc to SSv'aC.'the market hardened a little. -Heavy deliveries on May contracts forced the provision market downgrade. down-grade. Lard and ribs were especially especial-ly affected. 9 KANSAS CITY LIVESTOCK." KANSAS CITY, May 1.
