The Boston Braves have no scintil-ating scintil-ating stars on their batting list this year. President George Washington Grant admits it. They are satisfied bunch of athletes, though, Grant says. "It is a mistake to have disgruntled disgrunt-led players on a ball team. One malcontent mal-content can clog the machinery and spoil everything. I have refused to discuss salaries in the newspapers because be-cause I feel the private business affaire af-faire of the Boston club are of no particular par-ticular Interest to fans. So long as the Braves try their level best to win games the public cares nothing about the pay they will receive. Wo do not expect to win the pennant this year, but tho Braves havo been improved considerably since'last fall, and I feel sure they can play a strong, fast game. Every player on tho team is satisfied with tho salary he Is getting with the result that there is plenty of real fighting fight-ing spirit and conscientious effort." |
