Show Piano Recital I at Academy is I Pleasing Event j I Miss Willa Astill Greeted by ' I Large Audience at Sacred i j I Heart Academy H Miss Willa Astill, daughter of Mr. fl and Mrs. William T. Astill, delighted a large number of her teachers and friends Friday evening, when she wis presented In a pianoforte recital by Sacred Heart academy in the school auditorium. Miss Astill was gradu-ated gradu-ated from the" academic course last I June, standing as valedictorian of her class and returning in September to JM complete her course of music at the, 'H institution. Not only a large num-' 1H ber of Ogden music lovers were present, but a number of Salt H I Lake and Tremonton residents, who H came to hear Miss Astill In her gradu- H ation program. The stage was tsie- H fully and artistically decorated with i JH ferns, while on the rear wall were hung pictures of the noted masters of music. A bust of Beethoven lent jM an impressive atmosphere to the 1 stage. Appearing on the stage, Miss Astill was greeted with applause. The first number on the program, which was given by Miss Astill, was "Sonato Op. 31, No. 2 (Beethoven), in four move- ' ments, "Allegro," "Allegretto," 'Min- , jH uetto" and "Presto." "Allegretto," the second movement, was declared to bo the most impressive of the four. , Miss AstUl's second selection was t "Dancing Brook," by Stone, and ' Etudo" by Sghytte. Both of tnesa , ( selections wero well given, winning the hearty applause of those present by fhclr light and fantasia theme. 'M Three of Chopin's numbers followeo. Debussy's "Arabesque," Staub's "Soud Bbla"'. and Cserwonky's "Prelude" I were given next- Miss Astill'.re'sp'ond- ' e'd to the applause by playing a very 711 pretty piece. In decided contrast , to the T-iH foregoing was Arensky's "Valr, ' I H played by Miss Astill and by Miss 11 Margery Mullen, who played the i lH secondo. -M During the program Miss Astill was J iH assisted by Miss Pauline Sparks and Miss Margaret Wright. Miss Spaiki read "t I had Time" and "The Wesi lM Wind." Miss Wrlgh gave "The On- structlve Hat In the Pit," which 'H proved a source of merriment for those present. Miss right also read J two of Daly's selections. "Lcetla Hum- pa Jeem" and "Da Lonely Honey- ;i moon." j' As a fitting close to the program. iH the students of the academy-suns the school song, written and composed ny " Miss Astill. The violin obligato was played by Misses L. Bumhopj, C H Clark, J. Johnson, M. Luxeii. C. uib- , H son, G. McCarthy and F. Mullen; cello 'j by Miss D. Nichols and harp by Miss H M. Toy. ' I r In a debating contest between the : Morgan high school and the Coalville , school, the members of the Morgan , school debating team won first i:u'.. Norris Wadsworth and Cleone Tag-gart, Tag-gart, negative team, defeated the : North Summit high school at Gu.il- j ville, and Verena Vislck and Parle ' Kilburn, affirmative team, defeated the North Summit high school at Morgan. The Morgan teams left for .H Salt Lake during the latter part of the week to enter the state lists. Gov-eminent Gov-eminent control of public utilities was the question debated. -1 Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cohen celebrated r their thirtieth wedding anniversary ' Sunday afternoon, when a dinner was i given in their honor at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake by their three IH daughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fledscher of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. David H Schwartz of Green Rivor, Wyo.. and H Mr. and Mrs. Sigmas Porizky of Salt H Lake. In the evening a family party H was given at the residence of Mr. and H Mrs. Porizky on East Socond Soutn H street Mrs. Cohen was presented -JH with a pearl lavallere. Miss Inez Allen of Ocden assisted In and afternoon tea given in honor uf ll Miss Sara Quaylc of Salt Lake by her iH mother, Mrs. Ernest Quaylc, Moriday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Quajlu HH residence Third avenue in Salt Lake. Th'e living rooms were deco- ifll rated .in pink gladioli and snapdrag- lH on3. The tea table in the dining room had a mound of sweotpcas as a cel.-tcrpiece, cel.-tcrpiece, with two crystal candlostiul-.a shaded in pink on cither side. Miss ) Allen was assisted at tho tea table by IH Miss Ella Quaylo of Salt Lake.
