TOP TO BOTTOM Frozen solid from the top to the .base of the cliff, the miniature cataract catar-act in Waterfall canyon presents an unusual appearance for this tlmo in the year, according to boy scouts who made a trip through the canyon today.. Usually the ice-bound waterfall gives way before the advance of spring about Easter, but unusual conditions con-ditions has preserved the fall In its present condition. Snow, deeply packed In hollows, draws and ravines, is many feet In depth, the scouts report, and a wintry atmosphere offsets warmth generated In climbing through the canyon, they claim. The fall, sheathed with ice, presents a beautiful aspect, stalagmites and stalacties having been formed at thw base of the cliffs and from the rocks over which the water leaps. Disintegration of the frozen falls has started during tho past day or two, It Is stated, and huge icicles, breaking from the frozen mass, fall with thundering thun-dering reverberations, causing the narrow walls of the ravine to resound with the echoes. Complete release from its present ice-bound condition probably will occur oc-cur during the coming week, tho scouts stated, several huge fragments having fallen while they were nearby. oo |
